A large ad placeholder can be scaled down to fit a preview without changing the original creative dimensions. Seeing it fit inside this tool does not establish that a real creative of that size will fit your mobile placement.
Read the original dimension label
Open the ad size preview and select 970 × 250. On a narrow screen, the illustration scales to fit the available preview area. The label still describes a 970-pixel-wide, 250-pixel-high format. It has not become a different ad size.
The preview supports eight predefined formats. It does not request an ad, render a supplied creative or measure the container on your production page.
Check the actual placement
- Identify the real container width on the device you are testing.
- Compare the slot’s eligible size declarations with that space.
- Review responsive size mapping where your setup uses it.
- Test the actual page and creative delivery using appropriate platform diagnostics.
Google’s GPT ad-size guide explains fixed, multi-size, fluid and responsive setups. A visually resized placeholder is not a substitute for those production configurations.
Separate three questions
- Proportion: what shape does the selected format have?
- Eligibility: which creative sizes does the slot declare?
- Delivery: what did the real request and rendered page produce?
Our preview answers the first question. The GAM tag inspector can help inspect recognizable declarations in supplied code, but it also does not prove live delivery.
Should I stretch a real ad with CSS to imitate the preview?
The preview is an illustration, not implementation advice for modifying advertisements. Follow the platform’s supported setup and relevant policies. Check the reader experience and layout rather than treating a screenshot as proof of compatibility.
